Emmanuel Haiti started entirely by accident when Mary Phil and son Mat went to Jeremie, Haiti with a group in 2013. While there, they met a pastor and 50 orphans who were being evicted from their home that week. After returning to the US, the $50,000 needed to build an orphanage was given within two days by a donor with two stipulations: it was to be “anonymous and to the glory of God.” Emmanuel Haiti has grown to include not only the orphanage but a school with over 600 students, a medical clinic, two transition homes for children who have aged out of orphanages, a Bakery, sewing business and other enterprises to provide jobs for those kids, 15 churches all over Haiti, and a beautiful new widow village that gives homes to hard-working widows who then adopt girls from the orphanages, giving them a forever family. Orphan prevention is a main focus now, with homes built for families and scholarships given to children who would not be able to attend school otherwise and to whom the warm meal every day means a chance to stay with their families. The online Christmas catalog (emmanuelhaitimarket.com) and Haiti 5K help cover the costs of these projects, but the heart of the ministry is always the relationship with the very special Haitian people.
Mary Phil serves as the Director of Emmanuel Haiti and Ralph heads up 2911 Jeremie, a ministry that creates the businesses and provides higher education for these deserving kids. Five are even in medical school in Cuba with plans to return to Haiti as doctors to make a difference.
